Art & Sole...and a little bit of coffee.

You guys. I'm currently doing something I have not done in a loooong, long time. I'm blogging at a coffee shop - sans kiddo! Now, don't get my wrong, I love love love time with my little - she's not only adorable and sweet as can be, but she also loves to try on clothes, put on play makeup, and try on mama's shoes. How perf is that?! But when munchkin is at grandma's house, you better believe I'm bloggin'!

Today I've decided to pull out a book that's been on my work desk for quite some time now. When I am in need of fashion inspiration, a dose of creativity and art and style all at once, I flip through the gorgeous, lush pages of this sweet little coffee table book by Jane Gershon Weitzman. LOVE.
You may recognize Miss Jane's last name because you're a shoe fanatic like I am, and your ears perk up when you hear Stuart Weitzman. This book, called Art & Sole, is a spectacular selection of more than 150 dreamed-up art shoes from the Stuart Weitzman Collection. When Mr. Weitzman opened his very first boutique on the oh-so famous Madison Avenue, its displays of fantasy art shoes rapidly became a destination, drawing locals and visitors from all over the world to its magical fashion-art windows.

If you flip through the pages of Art & Sole, you'll find the best of this carefully curated collection, just in book form. From the comfort of my favorite coffee shop today I am sifting through these imaginative creations - ranging from materials like watercolor paper, playing cards, fresh flowers and even cake frosting (yum!).

So to all of you shoe and art lovers out there...get your shopping hands on this red velvety book - on the SW website, or on trusty Amazon.com.

From heels, to...

A lot of you follow yours truly on not only this fine and dandy blog, but also my Instagram and Facebook fanpage. And if you do, you know that my style has changed a little bit over the last few months.

Yes, it is true, since keeping busy with my freelance writing work, as well as my brand spakin' new Instagram Pop-Up Shop, I have found myself sporting the finest in flats, boots and booties. At first it was hard to let go of my heels - sifting through my heel closet was one of my favorite parts of my morning routine. But now, I must say that I am absolutely obsessed with the expansion of my shoe-loving mind. What was once a "heels only" girl is now a full-fledged boot obsessed fashionista. I can wear my boots and booties all day long, dash to coffee to do some writing, and not feel overdressed...but still have that style.

I have boots with studs, boots with fringe, booties with buckles - you name it! But the go-to boot that I keep coming back to over and over again are these Alessia Black Leather Booties - buckled-up beauties, from Summit White Mountain:

Made from exceptional Italian leather (and boy, can you feel it!), these classicly chic women's boots are made in the US of A, and always on-trend. Click, click, click away on the Summit White Mountain website, and you'll find some of the hottest new styles for spring shoes.

White Mountain women's footwear has been around for decades - known for their eye for detail, using quality tailoring techniques which create a look that never goes out of style. This year, White Mountain introduces its "Summit" brand, with the entire collection made from the finest Italian leather. Summit White Mountain combines subtle detailing and hidden comfort features, into modern silhouettes for the sophisticated shoe lover (like you and me!).

On my Spring shoes wish list now...

1) Radical White Leather Sandals - at a price under $130, that cutout detail is right up my sunshine alley!

2) Calid II Nude Platform Sandals are the perfect vacation shoe - with skinnies or sundress, these are winners! Plus, you can't go wrong with this kinda hippie chic style, right?

So, what's your go-to shoe when heels just won't do?

Winter style in sunny California.

Ok ok ok, I will be the FIRST to admit what a wimp I am when it comes to winter. My fuzzy wool fedora seriously goes off to the people who live in the Midwest or the East Coast where freezing temperatures are well below what we experience here in sunny California!

So when the 40's and 50's roll around in the forecast, I sadly push my tees and tanks to the back of the wardrobe until May, and start to stock up on cozy pullovers and wool scarves. It's kinda fun for a change, really!

The key to mastering winter style in California is to keep it fresh. It's super easy to get stuck in a rut of solids and stripes - but if you keep your winter style new and fresh, it's bound to perk you up like a good latte in January. Geometric patterns are a strong accent to any top, polka dots keep style spunky and young, and mixing colors and stripes is key to keeping it interesting. And don't you forget the power of a colorful, patterned scarf!

So, freshen up that winter closet with a few fun pieces to toss on with your favorite denim, a good sparkly skirt, or that bib necklace from F21 you've been dying to show off. Embrace that California winter, you wimp! It'll only last a few more months anyway.

A little dream, a new beginning!

Good morning, shoppers! I hope you all have had a fabu Thanksgiving, and a little time away with family and friends. I don't know about y'all, but I've taken FULL advantage of some excellent Black Friday deals (mostly from the comfort of my cushy couch, hot cocoa in-hand), and even Small Biz Saturday! It's been fun to check some things off of the Christmas list, and see what's out there, too!

Well, lemme get to the good stuff here...as some of you know, for a long time now I've had this blog, gushed about shoes, wailed over shoe sales, found you all bargains and on-trend beauty finds, and even had a man's perspective on women's shoes (one of my faves!). I love writing, and I am HAPPY that I'll continue to do so via this fashion blog and a few print magazines - but I DO have a confession: I have always wanted a boutique.

Oh yes, it's true. To be my own buyer, sell on-trend threads and accessories, shop the seasons and chat with customers, this = my dream come true. And in this amazing season of my life, I decided, what the heck, let's just do it. But, in true Holly in Heels fashion, I have decided to put my own spin on it!

Today, December 1, 2014, marks the day of the Holly in Heels Instagram Shop! This Pop-Up Shop that you'll find by shopping my @hollyinheels Instagram is an easy-peasy, lovely way to find adorable clothes, accessories, and even shoes (someday!) for the everyday girl. I am STOKED to launch it today, and know that you'll love it right along with me!

Here is a cute lil' graphic to tell you how the magic works:

It's honestly that easy - I post the pics, describe the item and fit, and you email me with your order! Oh, and did I mention there is FREE SHIPPING?! Yes, yes. You're welcome!

So here goes a little dream, and a new beginning! What more could I want for Christmas?! Ok, there are a few items...but you know what I mean ;)

Love to you all, and I hope your little dreams are a reality this season, too!

Your boyfriend's boots.

Soooo, I recently ran into the brand Rockport, who I have to admit I had heard of years ago, but hadn't really come across it in a while. There's been a ton of buzz surrounding their #PoweredByHeels #Sweeps as of late, where Instagrammers are posting their favorites from Rockport's Total Motion line, check it out here for a peek!

Browsing and clicking through the Total Motion line, I found that shoe-lovers can pick up insane comfort and flexibility in a shoe as you walk, trot, bend, and move in these beauties. And best of all, like all Rockport kicks, Total Motion shoes are crafted with care with the finest leather and suede out there.

Check out the dozens of superb styles, including women's ballet flats, women's wedge shoes, lace-up wedge shoes, women's dress pumps, and more more more! I, personally, sprang for something a bit unlikely, the Total Motion Boot came in this awesome boyfriend style that I have been looking to pair with some skinnies and an overcoat for the winter months, and I had to snag 'em...

These gorgeous leather lovelies are oh-so soft, with a lightweight, glove-like fit to them. No need to break in these guys, they're ready to wear in wind and rain! Rockport's super-amazing boots here are made with this magical stuff called ADIPRENE® by adidas, helping provide comfort from 7 AM to 7 PM, too! These black leather boots can go to the office or out to dinner, and be both stylish and comfortable no matter where the seasons take you!

Plus, I am a big fan of J.Crew style - simple, chic, and classic - and this boot is sure to get me outta my normal girly girl style, into something more boyfriend style for a change. I'm thinking these will be perfection with an outfit of something like THIS:

Will you wear your boyfriend's boots this season?

Moving on.

Well folks, I've done it. As of last week my family of 3 and I picked up and moved to a whole new city, a whole new part of California. Aside from going from apartment to apartment, post-college, I haven't really done a big move. See, the house we said goodbye to was the home of A LOT of things: where my husband proposed to me, where we came home as Mr. & Mrs., where we had endless parties and family dinners (including an epic 30th birthday, where the living room was cleared out to make room for a live band!), and where we brought our newborn babe home. Not to mention, it was also the home of my shoe closet! Sigh! It's a big change, and today has honestly got me feeling a bit homesick, so I decided to think about that AMAZING things that my new city has to offer...

One of those things is boot weather! For the first time in a long time, I'll be able to dwell in my yummy leather boots for longer than a week! Hoooooray! This fall, there are so many adorable short boots and riding boots out there - I'm trying to contain myself from shopping overload!

Nordies, of course, is well-stocked with a few favorite women's boot trends: including moto boots, over-the-knee boots, and short stacked heel boots. OMG, adorbs.

First off, can we just talk about how adorably daring the moto boot + skirt combo is?! I am in love. Tossed on with some ultra-sheer black tights...I am soooo ready for the fall!

Confession: usually I don't go for black boots. I dunno, I feel like I'm always bordering on trashy or harsh when I end up with a black boot, but this season, I'm throwing caution to the wind (I mean I'm in a new city for crying out loud, who cares?!). With the right style, and a few more pennies, black leather boots are work-work-workin' it this fall and winter season.

My favorite: Michael Kors studded moto boot - so NYC, so in my closet!

Well shoe lovers, thanks for listening to my Tuesday woes...and also for helping me look forward to a little cool weather boot-wearing!

Trend alert! Silver boots for fall.

One of my favorite memories I have with my man is the time we went country line dancing. Now now, I know I may seem more like a city gal to you, but deep down underneath this mall-strollin', money-spendin' machine is a simple girl. I remember we grabbed a few cold ones, did some two-steppin' amidst the crowded dance floor on the Central Coast of California, and got our boots a little dusty. It was quite magical!

Well, in this season where leaves are changing and new chapters are beginning, I've decided that I need to drag that man o' mine back out on the dance floor and do some country line dancing once again (plus, a cold beer sounds pretty delish!). I, of course, cannot even think about doing this without getting some brand new boots - and the trend alert for this season is silver boots!

Silver cowboy boots are taking a front seat right now - they're gorgeously metallic, and perfectly paired with dark denim or even skinny black jeans (also on-trend this fall!).

Just think: a little fitted boyfriend plaid shirt, some favorite black skinnies and these gorgeous silver boots - ahhhh! Love. I am all set to take the dance floor (or the stage!) for a little night out of good, ol' fashioned fun.

So, ladies, get your hands and your feet into this silver boots trend this fall - and I'll see you two-steppin' on that dance floor!

Guest Blogger: from summer to fall!

Labor Day weekend has passed us right up, the "back to school" commercials are circling the airwaves, and the sun is going to bed a little earlier every night - so you know that means summer is drawing to a close.

Personally, I'm ok with it - and guest fashion blogger, Lauren Farnoosh, agrees with me, too! Miss Lauren is author of the sassy style blog 'Styled By Noosh' at styledbynoosh.com, and here gives a few key fashion tips on layering up those fall fashions. Enjoy!
. . .

Transitioning from summer to fall can be an uncomfortable time. One minute it's cool and breezy, then suddenly scorching hot! Layering with lightweight clothing is an easy fix.

I personally love wearing a jacket with some shorts or a skirt.

This is the time of year when you can be really creative with your wardrobe and mix and match your summer and winter clothing together for fun and eclectic looks.
