Shopping local: a new neighborhood spot!

As much as I scour the web for great deals and trends at major department stores like Nordstrom, Gap, Target, Forever 21, I really do also love to shop small. Supporting local business is such a great thing to do - to step into a boutique filled with hand-picked items, and usually the shop owner at the front counter - there's really nothing like it. Most of these local biz owners have a really cool story, too. They started in a regular desk job, hated it, then discovered their true passion and went for it! I can hear different versions of that same inspiring story, and love hearing it every time.

This week, one of my favorite Orange County shop owners, Sarah and Mike Dowdell, are opening up a new store called Scouts Honor. Located in Irvine at Woodbury Town Center, these OC-based owners of Love and Whiskey (also in Irvine), are now focusing on refined goods for men, women, kids and the home. Here are a few sneak peeks!

I love love love that Scouts Honor will cary the owner's hand-selected clothing lines, including Almond Surf, OurCaste, and Roark - all based in OC. For us ladies, I have my eye on Scouts Honor's line of high-end denim from Mother, and handcrafted jewels from Costa Mesa-based Lili Claspe. And, of course, being a new mama myself, I'm saving my pennies for the kids section which includes pieces from Milk & Honey and Little Highbury.

One FABULOUS new thing the boutique will also offer are classes - from Pinterest-inspired crafts to closet styling and organization - this is the place to be!

Scouts Honor's official grand opening is THIS THURSDAY, April 3, 6-9pm, and of course yours truly will be there with bells on! Come Thursday and check out this little modern neighborhood shop - address is 6226 Irvine Blvd, Irvine, CA 92620 (Woodbury Town Center).

LIKE Scouts Honor on Facebook, and you can also follow their adorable outfit finds on Insta, @scoutshonorshop.

Happy (local) shopping!

Woven, natural, and caged.

This Thursday is SPRING! Can you even believe it? Ok ok, if you're currently reading this from the East Coast (book a flight to Southern California), I'm sure it's a little harder to believe, but it's true! And not only does the change in season mean longer days and warmer nights are ahead - it means NEW SHOES! Of course. And the #1 trend for sandals this season, think: woven, natural, and caged. Here are a few picks I currently can't resist...

The Sam Edelman 'Beck' sandal - inspired by the classic gladiator, with a dash of hippie-chic sophistication. I adore the smooth leather straps, making this caged-up sandal something you'll want to stay in all summer long!

A Nordstrom exclusive (I love those, you see!), DV by Dolce Vita 'Villa' sandal has got to be the sandal of the summer. There's something child-like about this design, something simple and easy about how you can wear it. In 5 amazing colors, to go with 5 different breezy outfits...you might want them all (and at $59 each, that's probably quite do-able!).

For the true bargain-hunter, turn to Target - don't you always? You may have to sacrifice a little on the quality side of things, but the on-trend look is there. Sam & Libby has a great selection at your neighborhood Target stop, and I particularly have my eyes on the Sam & Libby 'Ainsley' sandals. Priced under $30, you simply can't go wrong.

A little quirk + whimsy for your accessories!

There are tons of accessories that are currently filling my cups, bowls and dishes that line the vanity table in the corner of my bedroom (just ask the guy who sleeps next to me!). In addition to my mild obsession with shoes, I do have a semi-amazing obsession with accessories, too. With a big collection of oversized colorful earrings, metallic watches - big and small, shiny bangles and bib necklaces, there's a lot of real estate in my closet filled with these pretty things!

But my latest accessory find was dreamed up by an Austin, Texas designer, Amanda Dimova. Dimova started her style around 2006, making bold statement pieces from leather and crystals, even acrylic and wood baubles. From a one-woman operation, her brand, Vinca, is now sold worldwide - from Amsterdam to Korea - loved by customers who appreciate the brand's sheer cuteness + quirkiness! Yep, you'll notice unicorns, french sayings, and even sriracha bottles in this collection - bound and ready to grab your stylish attention.

All of the Vinca wooden and acrylic pieces are made from original drawings by designer Amanda Dimova herself, and then cut and assembled by her team in a "micro-manufacturing" type style. With most of the raw materials sourced right here from the good ol' U.S. of A., there's an unmatched quality that I notice myself in the cute wooden-diamond studs that I've been sportin'.

Check out the full line of Vinca jewelry online now, also available at your nearest Kitson, Nordstrom and fab.com and browse a few of my personal quirky faves of this season:

Enjoy the addition to your own accessory collection with Vinca jewels, and make sure to LIKE Vinca on Facebook for all of the latest whimsy goods!

Get your wallets ready, and your credit cards primed - the SJP Collection by Sarah Jessica Parker is a new collection of shoes, launching exclusively at Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com on February 28! Eek! With an exclusive reflection of Miss Parker's personal style, this Italian-crafted line of shoes grabs styles that you'll want to get your hands on ASAP this season.

Take a look at the rich colors of the line - coral, mint, teal and pink, to classic colors including purple, red and navy - those which Sarah Jessica has often said are "the new neutral." I love love love that there is a story behind each name of a pair of SJP shoes. You'll of course find the “Carrie”, and even the “Maud”, named after legendary designer Maud Frizon. And if you're worried about heel heights, fret no further - the collection of twenty-five shoes fits the shoe prefs of every lady, at every age. The price point is something to adore, too, ranging from $195 to just under $500 - but well-worth the high quality Italian leathers and materials that you'll be boasting on your toes.

The stylish Sarah Jessica Parker herself, President SJP USA LLC explains,
"I've taken inspiration from things in my life such as the grosgrain ribbons I tied in my hair as a girl, to the flower accents from the Sex and the City wardrobe, to references to classic styles from the late 70's and early 80's. I'm a firm believer in quality and timelessness and have created this collection with the hopes that women will love wearing it for years to come."
Handbag lovers and the outerwear obsessed will also be pleased to know that this gorgeous, Nordstrom-exclusive line also includes handbags and the SJP “Manhattan” trench coat. Yes yes, I am also in love.

Block party.

This spring I'm loving the sandals that are splashing the scene. The cage sandal with straps galore, the classic pointed toe flat that seems to be always on-trend, and last but not least...my new fave: the block heel. I think it's really the best of both the wedge and the high heel world - you get the leg-lengthening heigh of a heel, with all of the comfort of a wedge. It's clearly a block party in my closet. Perf!

And Dolce Vita has designed this oh-so affordable block heel sandal called the 'FOXIE' - with a fab 2 1/2" heel, all leather lining and outsole, and an adorable black heel zip-up and buckle detail. Two colors that will go with every denim legging and pencil skirt, even with your favorite springtime dress - you may have to get them both (wink wink!).

Super duper cute, and a MUST this season! Enjoy the block heel and grab this style while it's h-o-t.

The Fashion Sneaker: one shoe you need now.

Essential to every girl's closet is a good pair of sneakers. I know, it may seem odd coming from a girl who has "heels" as part of her nickname, but I'm assuming you all have a solid pair of heels and are just in need of a few alternatives. When it's one of those rainy, cloudy, jeans n' tee sorta days, then I will be the first to admit that I don't want to throw on my suede heels or my platform wedges. Oh no no, I want to slip into something a little more comfy and friendly - but not skip the style.

That's where the fashion sneaker comes in: the one shoe you need now (if you don't have it already!). Vans, Steve Madden and Vince are just a few brands that have carefully mastered this fashion, too. With some fantastic slip-ons, and great textures like pony hair, textile and metallics, you're sure to find the perfect fashion sneaker that fits your sass and style.

Here's a peek at my top 3:

Peter Pilotto For Target hits stores February 9!

I love Target. I mean, who doesn't? Where else can you get a re-stock on your paper towels, pick up a birthday card, an adorable cake stand for that new cupcake recipe you just tried out...and pick up an adorable pair of under-20-dollar shoes?! I know you agree.

So every time Target pulls off another one of their designer collaborations, I just fall more and more in love with the big-box store. This month, Target is teaming up with designer Peter Pilotto, which has been on my stylish radar since last September. Launching in stores and online on February 9th (just a few days away, hooray!), this color-clad collection is at a friendly price range of about $14-$80. Preview the collection here!

I love the dashes of yellow, poppy, turquoise and lime green amidst the geometric black and white shapes on each piece from this fashion-forward designer. Busy patterns and stripes all accentuate the clean cut lines of Peter Pilotto's dresses and jumpers. You'll find women's threads, darling accessories, and even a swim line to gear us up for the warmer months ahead. Can't wait!

A word to the wise: some of these darling items will only be available online - like the red floral and check print sweatshirt, and matching bikini bottom + tote, as well as the green floral stripe pencil skirt and bikini top.

So save that shopping date for February 9th! I'll see ya there.

Trend Tuesday: To Tommy From Zooey.

One of this generation's most stylish actresses, Miss Zooey Deschanel, is making headlines this week. That gorgeous, blue-eyed brunette is slowly convincing me (and the rest of the world) that she can quite possibly do it all. Not only does this doll sing, act, and show off her sophisticated humor in every interview we see, but she's now teamed up with designer Tommy Hilfiger on a new clothing collaboration!

Deschanel and Hilfiger found their dream team beat when the two met and started chatting on the topic of vintage clothing. This "new girl" to the fashion scene is now ready to make her Macy's debut on April 14 with the retro-inspired line of 14 dresses, affectionately called To Tommy From Zooey. The price point is friendly, at $98 to $199, and will eventually expand on tommy.com and Tommy stores in North America, Europe and Japan one week later, along with Deschanel-designed jewelry and handbags, too.

I think you'd agree that this is quite the unique pairing for preppy Hilfiger to partner with vintage girl Zooey, but I see the super-cute synergy in the clean lines and bright red, white and blues that are found in their 1960's era designs.

All Deschanel needs in her new design file is shoes if you ask me! Maybe I'll tweet her and we'll see.
